These Signs Read Fatal
A performance experiment from 2016
This piece is about sleeping next to someone and dreaming about how they will one day leave you.
I applied silver leaf to the surface of my own mattress, laid down on upon it and documented the residue that stuck to my bare skin. I thought of this as a metaphor for subconsciously understanding the dynamics of a dying relationship, waking up with a residual feeling.
Documentation for this piece was displayed with a line of my poetry written on the wall:
“Though I would wake to find you, these signs read fatal; I can feel the malignity of a universe described by the shape of your absence”
